What questions should I ask myself when considering a locum tenens staffing company?
It is crucial to both Providers and Clients that they work with a reputable firm. Onyx M.D. has a reputation for providing reliable facilities with reliable practitioners. When considering a locum tenens agency, here are 6 questions you should ask:
-
Who owns and operates the company?
Onyx M.D. is an unusual company in that we are a physician-owned company. While that means you may not always be able to read our handwriting, is does mean that we understand what it means to be a physician. Our leadership not only places physicians, they work with patients. There are certain things about an occupation that must be experienced. Since Onyx M.D. is physician-owned, our staff knows, in depth, the nuances of each specialty we place.
-
Is the agency a member of the National Association of Locum Tenens Organization (NALTO) and the National Association of Physician Recruiters (NAPR)?
NALTO is the industry association that determines ethical business practices within the locum tenens industry. As a member, Onyx M.D. strictly adheres to their standards and regularly attends their meetings to stay informed on new issues and policies. Similarly, the NAPR maintains ethical guidelines for agencies involved in the permanent recruitment of physicians.
- Does the agency provide malpractice insurance for the physicians they place?
All locum physicians that contract with Onyx M.D. receive coverage appropriate to the state in which they practice. For more details, please contact an Onyx M.D. consultant. They will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
- What is the agency's payment history?
All Onyx M.D. independent contract physicians are compensated for services on the 15th of the month and on the last day of the month for the period ending two weeks prior and then every two weeks thereafter. Physicians that work with Onyx M.D. are contractors and as such receive a 1099 tax statement at the end of the year from Onyx M.D. for services rendered. An independent contractor provides services to a company, but is not an employee of that company. All Onyx M.D. locum tenens providers are considered independent contractors.
- Does the agency handle all the details?
