Relay for Life - Team "Kicking Cancer"

Pam Buckalew of Stratum Med has been diagnosed with cancer.  The cancer is known as "high-grade, poorly differentiated stage IV neuro endocrine carcinoma" that originated in the right lung and lymph nodes, but has spread to the left lung. She has been on chemo and radiation treatments fighting all the way.  Her recent results showed that the cancer is still growing and just recently she started the last available string of chemo which is only 30% effective against this type of cancer. Unfortunately, she hasn't been in the office since January 1 and is on a leave of absence from work as she continues to fight her cancer at home with her family by her side.

Pam has a husband – Brent of 20+ years, a daughter, Cansas (13) and son, Jack (9).  Cansas is the Team Captain of the “Kicking Cancer” Relay for Life Team.

Special Olympics Colorado

Special Olympics was founded in 1969 on the belief that people with intellectual disabilities can, with proper instruction and encouragement, learn, enjoy and benefit from participation in individual and team sports. Special Olympics believes that consistent training is essential to the development of sports skills, and that competition among those of equal abilities is the most appropriate means of testing these skills, measuring progress and providing incentives for personal growth. Special Olympics also believes that through sports training and competition, people with intellectual disabilities benefit physically, mentally, socially and spiritually; families are strengthened; and the community at large, both through participation and observation, is united in understanding people with intellectual disabilities in an environment of equality, respect and acceptance.

Brent's Place

There is a place where families are offered hope and healing when facing the most demanding time of their lives. There is a place where kids being treated for life threatening cancer can still be kids. This place is Brent's Place. Brent's Place helps those living with cancer by providing housing and programs through partnerships in our community.
Since its inception, Brent's Place has remained the only Children's Hospital Colorado approved "Safe-Clean" housing facility for immune compromised patients and their families, providing a living environment that is essential to healing and recovery.
